Part localizer from SICK brings order to the chaos of mixed-up parts
Testing and assembly specialist Kubik Automation GmbH from Baienfurt in Germany is putting SICK's PLOC2D robot guidance system to use in its new sCube assembly cell. The team of experienced industry experts specializes in the development of innovative products and the optimization of production processes for automation technologies. Tailor-made special machines are developed for the automotive, electromechanics, medical technology, and consumer goods sectors.

Smart sensors - information suppliers for Industry 4.0
Smart Sensors generate and receive data and information which goes beyond traditional switching signals or measured process parameters. They therefore enable substantial increases in efficiency, more flexibility, and better planning security for preventative system maintenance. Depending on the requirement, Smart Sensors cover up to four dimensions of smart sensing.

3D localization belt picking SensorApp for pick-and-place tasks
The ability to ensure hygienic primary packaging of sensitive open foodstuffs is an incredibly important consideration within the food industry. This is why SICK is working with robot manufacturer Stäubli to make this process possible within a robot cell. The TriSpectorP1000 3D vision sensor from SICK and the four-axis FAST picker TP80 he from Stäubli solve picking processes together on a running conveyor belt. The 3D parts are localized with the belt picking SensorApp and implemented by means of SICK AppSpace. In use cases, shrimp or cookies are successfully sorted in packaging trays.
Challenges

Safety
Linking automated production equipment with semi-automated assembly cells requires intelligent and flexible safety concepts. SICK safety solutions ensure the protection of operating personnel, optimize production, and reduce the machine footprint and downtime.

Quality control
Assembly processes are strongly influenced by the product and require flexibility and openness to develop and implement individual processes. Reliability is an important requirement for each of these different processes, which poses a highly challenging task for quality control. SICK’s distance sensors, vision sensors and systems support nearly every type of monitoring.

Track and trace
Reliable identification of objects is a prerequisite for a smooth production flow, and lays the foundations for traceability and continuous quality improvement. SICK offers a wide range of both permanently installed and mobile readers for bar codes, 2D codes, and RFID technology.

Flexible automation
The automation of handling and assembly processes under the most stringent accuracy requirements needs high resolution positioning systems, flexible production lines, and high diagnostic abilities. Modern, intelligent sensors from SICK are able to store settings, use automated teach-in and diagnostic capabilities, and independently evaluate and relay the sensor data in the process, thus making a significant contribution towards meeting these challenges.
