Overview

Protecting assets, managing information

Automated building safety and security solutions protect public buildings, industrial facilities, critical infrastructures, private homes or material assets from vandalism, theft, terrorism, intrusion, or where necessary, unlawful escape. Yet, the protection offered by mechanical measures and guards is often not sufficient. SICK electronic sensor-based protective devices complement these measures and are suitable for stationary, portable, or mobile applications. In order to extend response times, protection is provided in a concentric manner: from perimeter protection and monitoring of the building exterior and interior, as well as object monitoring.

Under steam in the St. Petersburg Railway Museum: safety laser scanner S300 Mini

In the railway museum in St. Petersburg, two S300 Mini safety laser scanners from SICK secure a modern multimedia installation. Thanks to these devices, a video wall 4.5 m high moves over the entire travel path of approx. 22 m with an accuracy of 1 mm. If an emergency situation occurs, the video screen stops safely thanks to the S300 Mini.

Storing goods safely before distribution

As a secure shipper in accordance with the German Aviation Security Act, a company that sends air freight to the USA must protect the goods from being accessed by unauthorized parties. As a non-certified shipper, the goods must be X-rayed, which means extra costs and time expenditure. An intrusion or manipulation can cause a huge amount of damage for the company. The company's deliverability would be limited, which would be detrimental to its relationships with its customers. In a Southern Baden distribution center, Siemens is using a fence and facade security system, which works using SICK sensor technology, for exactly this purpose.

Challenges

Detecting The sensors from SICK are perfectly suited for the presence detection of objects of all kinds. In the field of building safety and security, the main task is the detection of persons to identify unauthorized access to buildings and grounds. Various alarm systems can be easily connected using sensors from SICK.
Protecting

In building safety and security, the protection of buildings, property and access areas, but also of persons and valuables, is very important. SICK sensors therefore protect buildings and property against intrusion and jailbreak.

Identification SICK bar code scanners and RFID read devices reliably read transponders for access control. This ensures that only persons or vehicles with access authorization can enter certain buildings or areas.
Measuring The laser data from the 2D LiDAR sensors can be used to detect the length of stay, direction of movement, and speed of anyone detected by the system. These data can also be used to control cameras, thereby making it easy to tell the difference between legitimate individuals and potential thieves when looking at security screens.
