Absolute encoders generate unique position values. Depending on the requirements, information about the position, angle of rotation or speed can be derived. For singleturn variants, the resolution describes the number of possible steps per revolution. A multiturn encoder type also records the number of revolutions. The stainless steel variants are particularly suitable for use under challenging ambient conditions. SICK also offers absolute encoders with a functionally safe design that support safety functions according to IEC 61800-5-2 and applications for safe positioning.
